Kogîlniceanu

Origin
A tree on its own roots aged 40 years was found in Izvoare Village, Orhei District in 1967, being registered in 2006.

Variety Characteristics
Tree of medium vigour, relatively resistant to frosting weather, being rarely affected by Gnomonia leptostyla (Fr.) Ces. et De Not. It has prologinic type blooming, the female flowers start blooming earlier than the male flowers. It starts bearing pretty early, and the harvest is rich and constant. High-quality walnuts.

Tree
At the age of 40 the tee is 12-meter high, having a cylindrical thick trunk.
Crown – large pyramidal, relatively dense.
Branches – high, thick, with medium angle of ramification, the bark having a dark gray colour with prominent longitudinal cracks.
Offshoots – have medium thickness and length and yellow-brown bark.

Fruit
Size – large, on the average Р=51mm, D=35mm, d=37 mm, the average weight is 12,5 grams.
Shape – ellipsoidal, flat cross-section, round-shaped base, relatively large perpendicular aperture with well clustered fascicules and slightly sharp top. High Index-shape, ellipsoidal, slightly oblong.
Endocarp – thin with a slightly corrugated surface coloured light-brown.
Kernel – large, yellowish.
Maturity/Harvest – middle of September.
